Second Thessalonians 3:10 is not a suggestion. It’s not open for interpretation. The Apostle Paul is crystal clear: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” That’s not me saying it. That’s Scripture.
Yet today we’re told we must ignore this command in the name of compassion. We’re scolded for wanting to stop funding people who refuse to work, especially those whose only real ambition is feeding a drug habit. We’re called heartless for pointing out the obvious: many on the streets aren’t helpless victims, they’re unwilling to get clean and unwilling to work. They’d rather steal from their own families, overdose, and live in filth than put in an honest day’s labor.
This isn’t about being cruel. It’s about being obedient to what God actually said. The Bible doesn’t command us to enable self-destruction. It commands personal responsibility.
The modern do-gooder crowd loves taking taxpayer money and handing it to those who contribute nothing. They call it “compassion.” God calls it disobedience. Paul wasn’t writing to pagans when he gave this command—he was writing to the church. If he expected believers to stop feeding those who refused to work, how much more should we stop forcing hardworking taxpayers to subsidize drug addicts who won’t lift a finger?
The solution is simple and biblical. If someone wants public assistance, they work for it. Clean the parks. Pick up needles. Plant trees. Maintain roads. Paint over graffiti. There’s no shortage of honest work that needs doing. If they’re unwilling to do any of it, then as the Scripture says, they don’t eat—at least not on the public dime.
We’ve tried the soft approach. We’ve poured billions into programs with no expectations, and what have we gotten? Tent cities, open-air drug markets, human waste on sidewalks, and needles where children play. That’s not compassion. That’s cruelty disguised as kindness.
The Bible doesn’t say we should let people starve to death in the street. But it absolutely says we should not subsidize laziness and addiction. There’s a massive difference between helping the truly disabled or the person who’s fallen on hard times and propping up people whose lifestyle choice is drugs over dignity.
We’ve got to stop letting people rewrite Scripture to fit their politics. Second Thessalonians 3:10 hasn’t changed. God’s word still stands. If you’re unwilling to work, you shall not eat.
It’s time we started believing the Bible again, even when it’s politically incorrect.

Anyone can take a verse of the Bible and preach it to meet their own needs and you friend have done just that. You need to go back and read the Gospels; the Word of God through His son, our Lord Jesus Christ who preached Love Compassion and forgiveness. And who also taught us to “Judge not less you be judged; for you will be judged as you have judged others.”. For a supposed Christian; supposed being this is a Catholic forum; you have managed to miss the simplistic message our Saviour left us with; Love the Most High with all your heart, all your body and all your spirit and love your neighbor as yourself. No where does our Savior tell us to walk away from someone who will not work for his meal. No where does He tell us to turn our backs on our brothers and sisters unless they meet our definition of being “worthy”. For none of us are worthy!!! Go back and read the Gospels friend. Perhaps the King James version will be more direct in helping you to truly understand the mission our Lord has given us. I will remember you in my prayers that your heart will be unhardened and His love will guide you towards His truth, His life, and His way.
NO, the verse was not taken out of context, it fits perfectly today, and Paul was right on here, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat”! At least as was said, not on the public, (my dime), you want to eat, get a job, and remember , Jesus was NO liberal either, I see people all the time taking advantage of food pantry’s and what ever else, don’t want to get a job, just want a hand out. That has to stop, and Jesus would agree with that. I have what I have through hard work.
King James Bible? Oh that’s the problem? Your telling him in a round about way he is now reading the wrong bible? You need to look at your history of the Bible…you accuse him of judging other people and than commence to Judge him and the Bible he reads? Now who’s judging? I find it amazing how Protestants find their way on this page to point out how the Catholic Canon is the wrong Bible, when it pre dates the king James Bible by over 1000 years. Not to mention the King James Bible dumped 7 texts to eliminate books that didn’t fit Martin Luther’s agenda. Bottom line is this no one wants to work anymore because handouts are so excessive. I see it everyday..it’s a mind set planted by the Government. Its like feeding a wild deer, if you feed them enough they become docile, they dont forage for food anymore they walk right into your camp site and beg, because it’s easier. Don’t be so Nieve about the Right Bible as you imply and the never ending flow of money from a corrupt tax system.
