Pope Leo XIV is set to return to Latin America this November, with the Vatican announcing plans for an extensive Apostolic Journey that will include visits to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru.
According to Vatican News, the Holy See Press Office announced that the Holy Father will travel from November 6 to November 17, 2026, making stops in ten cities across the three South American nations.
The journey will begin in Uruguay, where Pope Leo is scheduled to visit Montevideo, Paysandú, and Florida from November 6 to 8. The visit carries particular significance because, according to Vatican News, Catholics comprise only 36% of Uruguay’s population, making it the country with the lowest percentage of Catholics in Latin America.
From there, the Pope will travel to neighboring Argentina from November 8 to 11, visiting Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and the Marian pilgrimage site of Luján. The visit is expected to hold special meaning for Argentine Catholics, as it marks the first papal visit to the country since the election of Pope Francis. According to Vatican News, although Pope Francis was born in Buenos Aires, he was unable to return to his homeland during his 12-year pontificate.
The final and longest portion of the Apostolic Journey will take place in Peru from November 11 to 17. Pope Leo is scheduled to visit Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
Peru has a particularly personal connection for the Holy Father. According to Vatican News, Pope Leo “first arrived as a missionary in the 1980s, later serving as a bishop there and acquiring citizenship.” His return is expected to be especially meaningful for the faithful who knew him during his years of missionary and episcopal ministry.
According to Vatican News, the Latin American pilgrimage “will see the Pope visit ten cities over eleven days” and will become Pope Leo XIV’s sixth international trip since the beginning of his pontificate.
The Vatican has not yet released the detailed itinerary for the Apostolic Journey. According to Vatican News, “The schedule for the journey will be released in due course.”
