Pope Leo XIV will travel through three South American nations this November in an extensive Apostolic Journey that will bring the Holy Father to Catholic communities across Uruguay, Argentina and Peru.

The Holy See Press Office released the detailed program for the Nov. 6–17 journey on Sept. 21, along with the official logos and mottos prepared for each country. According to Vatican News, the Pope is scheduled to visit ten cities during the 12-day journey.

The journey will begin in Uruguay, where Pope Leo will visit Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida from Nov. 6–8.

The visit will mark the first time a pope has traveled to Uruguay since St. John Paul II visited the country in 1988. The motto chosen for the Uruguayan portion of Pope Leo’s journey is “I bring you news of great joy,” words drawn from the angel’s announcement to the shepherds in Luke 2:10.

The official logo incorporates distinctly Catholic and Uruguayan imagery, including Christ crucified and risen, Our Lady of the Thirty-Three, the patroness of Uruguay, and a sun inspired by the country’s national symbolism.

On Nov. 8, the Holy Father will continue to Argentina for a three-day visit that includes Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján.

The journey carries particular significance for the Church in Argentina, the homeland of Pope Francis. According to Vatican News, Argentina has not received a papal visit since St. John Paul II traveled there in 1987.

Argentina’s motto for the Apostolic Journey is “Welcome everyone. Go and proclaim.” Its logo centers on people gathered around Christ, reflecting the Church’s call to encounter, shared responsibility and missionary discipleship.

Pope Leo will then depart for Peru on November 11 for the longest portion of the journey, remaining in the country through November 17. His itinerary includes Lima, Chiclayo, Cuzco and Pucallpa.

Peru holds a deeply personal connection to Pope Leo, who spent years serving the Church there in missionary and pastoral ministry before his election to the papacy. His return will include Chiclayo, the diocese he once served as bishop.

“Let us open our hearts” has been selected as the motto for the Peruvian stage of the journey. According to Vatican News, the accompanying logo is framed by a heart representing openness to God, others and the future. It also incorporates a map of Peru and a dove representing the Holy Spirit.

The image further recalls Peru’s rich Catholic heritage by depicting Pope Leo surrounded by St. Rose of Lima, St. Turibius of Mogrovejo, St. Martin de Porres, St. Francis Solano and St. John Macías.

The November journey will bring Pope Leo from the largely secularized society of Uruguay to the homeland of his predecessor and finally to the country where he spent an important portion of his own priestly and episcopal ministry.

Across all three nations, the official mottos emphasize joy, evangelization and openness to God — themes that will accompany the Holy Father as he meets the faithful throughout South America.
