A significant diplomatic meeting is set to take place at the Vatican this week, as Pope Leo XIV prepares to welcome Marco Rubio to the Apostolic Palace on May 7.
According to Vatican News, the Holy See Press Office confirmed that the meeting will occur at 11:30 a.m., with Rubio expected to arrive shortly beforehand at 11:15 a.m. The encounter highlights ongoing dialogue between the Vatican and the United States at a time when global cooperation and moral leadership remain vital.
This will not be the first time the two leaders have met. According to Vatican News, Rubio previously greeted the Pope on May 18, 2025, following the Mass marking the beginning of his Petrine ministry. On that same occasion, JD Vance was also present and greeted the Holy Father.
The relationship continued to develop the following day. According to Vatican News, “a bilateral meeting took place between Pope Leo XIV and both Vance and Rubio” on May 19, 2025, signaling an early commitment to diplomatic engagement between the new pontificate and American leadership.
In addition to his meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State, the Holy Father’s schedule on May 7 will also include another important audience. According to Vatican News, the Pope will meet Donald Tusk earlier that morning at 9:00 a.m.
These meetings reflect the Church’s ongoing role in fostering dialogue among nations and promoting peace, cooperation, and the dignity of all people. As Pope Leo XIV continues his Petrine ministry, such encounters underscore the Vatican’s unique position at the crossroads of faith and global affairs.
