The release of previously undisclosed personal diary entries attributed to former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Dr. Anthony Fauci has intensified debate over his role during the COVID-19 pandemic, with lawmakers and public officials arguing that the documents reveal a stark contrast between his private reflections and his public messaging.
According to LifeSiteNews, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. provided the diaries to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) after they were reportedly recovered from multiple government servers. Kennedy said it took officials “about eight months to dig these out of 11 separate servers where they had been sequestered and secreted.”
Reflecting on the contents of the journals, Kennedy stated, “The starkest impression you get from reading the diaries is this massive dichotomy between what he was saying privately and what he was simultaneously saying publicly.”
The diaries were released ahead of a Senate committee hearing where Sen. Paul has indicated Fauci will be questioned about gain-of-function research, the government’s response to COVID-19, and the preemptive pardon he received before leaving office.
The release prompted sharp criticism from several public figures. According to LifeSiteNews, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said, “Anthony Fauci constructed a machine that crushed livelihoods, locked down our churches, silenced dissenting doctors, and violated the constitutional rights of the American people. That is not hyperbole. That is the record.”
Flynn further argued that Fauci “faces no accountability” and concluded, “Fauci must stand trial for his crimes against this Nation. Not because we hunger for vengeance, but because justice is the foundation of the rule of law.”
Kennedy also questioned the legacy of the nation’s former top infectious disease official, saying in a separate interview, “The countries that adopted Anthony Fauci’s protocols had the worst death rates in the world. How is Anthony Fauci a hero to people when he racked up a death count that is, by far, the biggest in the world?”
Sen. Paul has also shared excerpts from the diaries on social media, asserting that they reveal an unusual preoccupation with media attention during the height of the pandemic. In one post, Paul wrote, “While Americans buried loved ones, Anthony Fauci was counting headlines that doted over him,” adding that the revelations were “Absolutely vile.”
According to LifeSiteNews, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also weighed in, stating, “Gain of Fauci = protecting his own hide above all else.”
Kennedy suggested the upcoming testimony could carry legal consequences if Fauci provides false statements under oath. “Fauci has immunity against all of the things that he did prior to President Biden signing or the electronic pen signing his pardon,” Kennedy said. “But he could perjure himself now… And if he lies again, then he could be subject to perjury prosecution.”
