A filmmaker who says he once belonged to Freemasonry is drawing renewed attention to the spiritual dangers of the occult after claiming that certain occult rituals may have opened “portals” connected to what many people describe today as UFO or alien encounters.
According to LifeSiteNews, filmmaker Sean Stone, the son of director Oliver Stone, recently discussed his experiences with Freemasonry and the occult during appearances on podcasts hosted by Tucker Carlson and Danny Jones. Stone argued that what many people interpret as extraterrestrial phenomena may instead have a spiritual explanation rooted in demonic activity.
Speaking with Jones, Stone said, “one of the theories is that some of these beings, these aliens that have been showing up are demons that (enter) through portals” opened through occult practices.
According to LifeSiteNews, Stone pointed specifically to the 1946 “Babalon Working,” an Enochian magic ritual conducted by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and rocket scientist Jack Parsons, who led the occult organization Ordo Templi Orientis founded by Aleister Crowley. Stone suggested that the ritual may have coincided with the dramatic rise in reported UFO sightings beginning in 1947.
“They were doing these ‘workings’ and opening portals for these beings to come through,” Stone said.
Stone’s comments reflect his personal beliefs and experiences. He did not present evidence establishing a causal connection between the 1946 ritual and later UFO reports.
Stone also described what he says was a frightening personal encounter after reading an Enochian incantation from a book. According to LifeSiteNews, he claimed that about 30 minutes later he received a phone call from an unknown number featuring what he described as a raspy, garbled voice asking whether he was a sorcerer. He further claimed that similar calls continued and sometimes displayed “666” while invoking the name “Ba’al.”
In an earlier interview with Tucker Carlson, Stone described reality as a spiritual conflict, saying that humanity’s souls are engaged in a battle between “dark and light.” According to LifeSiteNews, he said he witnessed extraordinary manifestations during his initiation into Freemasonry that convinced him spiritual forces are real.
“There are definitely people in the military and intel world that would believe this stuff,” Stone said.
Despite discussing extraordinary claims, Stone repeatedly emphasized that his experiences ultimately led him away from occult practices and toward Christianity.
“When you know this stuff is real, you look for faith, you look to solidify your faith in your creator because that’s the only power you’ve got against these things,” he said.
LifeSiteNews also noted Stone’s comments regarding technology investor Peter Thiel, who has publicly spoken about Christianity and the biblical figure of the Antichrist. Stone said he does not dismiss Thiel’s return to Christianity, suggesting that recognizing the reality of spiritual evil often leads people to seek God.
For Catholics, the Church has consistently warned against involvement in occult practices, divination, magic, and attempts to communicate with supernatural powers apart from God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that practices such as magic, sorcery, and attempts to harness hidden spiritual powers are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion because they seek influence outside of God’s providence (CCC 2116-2117).
While the Church does not endorse speculative theories about UFOs or alleged supernatural “portals,” it consistently teaches that Christians should avoid occult practices entirely and place their trust in Jesus Christ, who alone has authority over every spiritual power.
