Pope Leo XIV has arrived in Cameroon, continuing his apostolic journey across Africa with a message of faith, unity, and pastoral care for the people of the continent. According to Vatican News, the Holy Father landed at Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport on April 15 at 2:57 p.m. local time, marking the second major stop of his multi-nation pilgrimage.
The Pope’s visit to Cameroon follows his initial stop in Algeria, where he began this significant journey on April 13. His broader itinerary includes visits to Angola and Equatorial Guinea before his scheduled return to Rome on April 23, according to Vatican News.
Upon his arrival, Pope Leo XIV was formally received by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute. The welcoming ceremony included greetings from children, the playing of national anthems, and the introduction of official delegations from both the Holy See and Cameroon. Following the ceremony, the Pope held a brief meeting with the Prime Minister, according to Vatican News.
The Holy Father’s first full day in Cameroon is expected to reflect both diplomatic and pastoral priorities. He is scheduled to visit the Presidential Palace to meet privately with President Paul Barthélemy Biya, followed by an address to government authorities, members of civil society, and the diplomatic corps.
In keeping with his pastoral mission, Pope Leo XIV will also visit the Ngul Zamba Orphanage, where he will spend time with children and staff, offering a visible sign of the Church’s care for the most vulnerable. His day will conclude with a private meeting with the bishops of Cameroon at the headquarters of the Episcopal Conference.
This leg of the journey highlights the Church’s enduring presence in Africa and the Pope’s commitment to strengthening faith communities, supporting local clergy, and encouraging works of charity. As the Holy Father continues his pilgrimage, Catholics around the world are invited to pray for the success of his mission and for the people he encounters along the way.
