Pope Francis continues his recovery at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital after being admitted on February 14 for treatment of bilateral pneumonia. On Friday morning, the Holy See Press Office released an update on the Pope’s condition, assuring the faithful that the Holy Father had a “quiet night” in the hospital.
The statement from the Press Office detailed that Pope Francis, despite his health challenges, has remained engaged in spiritual activities. He has been following the annual Spiritual Exercises of the Roman Curia via video link from the hospital, an event that is set to conclude on Friday. These exercises, led by Fr. Roberto Pasolini, OFM Cap, have centered around the theme “The Hope of Eternal Life,” and are offered to officials of the Roman Curia twice daily.
On the medical front, the Pope’s treatment has included prescribed physiotherapy, as well as continued management of his respiratory condition. According to the Press Office, “Pope Francis continued the prescribed treatments, including motor physiotherapy” on Friday. His doctors are also maintaining his oxygen levels by alternating between non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night and high-flow oxygenation during the day.
In addition to his treatment, the Holy Father marked a significant personal milestone on Thursday evening, celebrating the 12th anniversary of his election to the See of Peter. During this time, the healthcare staff attending him also joined in marking the occasion.
