Pope Francis continues to show signs of recovery following his hospitalization at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Hospital. The Holy See Press Office has been providing regular updates on the Pontiff’s condition, reassuring the faithful that he is improving.
“The night went well, and this morning Pope Francis got up and had breakfast,” according to the latest update from the Holy See Press Office on Friday, February 21 (Vatican News). This follows a previous report stating that his condition has been slightly improving since his admission on February 14.
The Pope was initially hospitalized due to bronchitis but was later diagnosed with double pneumonia. His medical team adjusted his pharmacological therapy accordingly. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni explained to reporters that the Pope has “focal pneumonia,” which means the infection is localized rather than widespread. Bruni also confirmed that Pope Francis “breathes autonomously and that his heart remains stable” (Vatican News).
Faithful Catholics around the world have been praying for the Holy Father’s swift recovery. Despite his illness, Pope Francis continues to fulfill his spiritual duties. “This morning, he received the Eucharist and then dedicated himself to work activities,” stated the Holy See Press Office (Vatican News).
With twice-daily health updates, it is clear that the Pope is responding well to treatment. “His clinical condition is showing slight improvement. He has no fever, and his hemodynamic parameters remain stable” (Vatican News). Reports have also confirmed that he rests well at night and gets out of bed in the morning to have breakfast.
As the Holy Father remains in the care of his medical team, the Church continues to pray for his complete healing. May the Lord grant him strength and health, so he can continue his mission of guiding the faithful and proclaiming the Gospel to the world.
