The Catholic faithful around the world continue to pray for Pope Francis as he remains hospitalized at the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome. The Holy See Press Office provided an update on Wednesday morning, assuring the public that the Holy Father had “a quiet night and is resting,” according to Vatican News.
The Pope, who is receiving treatment for bilateral pneumonia, awoke in the morning and “sat in his armchair, where he continued his therapy,” the press office stated. He remains on the same oxygen therapy regimen as in previous days, and medical professionals are closely monitoring his condition. Tuesday evening’s update noted that his “clinical condition remains critical but stable. There have been no acute respiratory episodes, and hemodynamic parameters continue to be stable.”
A pulmonary CT scan was performed on Tuesday evening to further assess the Pope’s condition, and results are expected soon. “The prognosis remains guarded,” the Vatican said in its latest medical briefing.
Despite his illness, Pope Francis has continued to engage in limited work. The Holy See confirmed that “in the morning, after receiving the Eucharist, he resumed work activities.”
The Pope was admitted to the hospital on Friday, February 14, after suffering from bronchitis, which later developed into double pneumonia. Alongside this, he has also shown “signs of mild renal insufficiency, which appears to be under control.”
The Vatican has been providing twice-daily updates on the Pope’s health, keeping the faithful informed as they offer prayers for his recovery. Catholics worldwide remain united in prayer for the Holy Father, asking for his strength and healing during this time.
Let us continue to pray for Pope Francis, entrusting his health and well-being to the intercession of Our Lady and all the saints.
