Satanic Abortion Ritual Inside Hobby Lobby Appears to Mock the Eucharist

A provocative new video connected to The Satanic Temple depicts a woman carrying out what the organization describes as a satanic abortion ritual inside a Hobby Lobby restroom, while repeatedly using Christian imagery in scenes apparently designed to antagonize believers.

According to a report from LifeSiteNews, the video was released by Satanic Planet, a band associated with The Satanic Temple co-founder Lucien Greaves. The footage shows Martina Rinaldi entering a Hobby Lobby before performing the organization’s abortion “destruction ritual” in a store bathroom.

The video repeatedly contrasts the ritual with Christian merchandise displayed inside Hobby Lobby, including crosses, Scripture references and items referring to Jesus Christ. Toward the end of the video, some of the Christian imagery is depicted engulfed in flames.

LifeSiteNews reports that the ritual includes a series of statements prescribed by The Satanic Temple before and after taking an abortion pill. The organization describes the ritual as a means of helping participants reject guilt associated with abortion.

“It serves to empower the patient against those with theocratic religious convictions,” The Satanic Temple’s explanation states, according to LifeSiteNews. “The ritual wards off the effects of unjust persecution, which can cause one to stray from the path of scientific reasoning.”

During the ritual, Rinaldi is shown looking into a mirror and reciting one of the organization’s tenets declaring, “One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.”

According to LifeSiteNews, she later takes an abortion pill and recites another statement prescribed by The Satanic Temple concerning its understanding of scientific reasoning. The video subsequently depicts her pretending to pass the embryo before returning to the mirror for the ritual’s concluding affirmation.

The final words of the ritual are particularly disturbing from a Catholic perspective.

“By my body, my blood, by my will, it is done,” Rinaldi says.

LifeSiteNews characterized the language as an apparent mockery of the Mass and Holy Communion. The Catholic Church teaches that the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ and that human life must be protected from conception until natural death.

The video also carries an explicitly political message. It is titled “Samuel Alito’s Mom,” referring to Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his role in the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

The Satanic Temple’s involvement in abortion extends beyond the newly released video.

In a statement accompanying the video, Greaves said the organization has opened three abortion facilities and is working toward opening a fourth.

“In an effort to preserve reproductive rights in the face of theocratic opposition, Satanic Temple has opened three abortion clinics and is currently working toward a fourth,” the statement said.

Greaves also said the organization intends to pursue legal action seeking the ability to distribute abortion drugs in states where laws restrict their availability.

“Following the opening of the fourth clinic, we are going to sue to establish our religious freedom to ship abortion pharmaceuticals to any state in the U.S. regardless of their restrictions on bodily autonomy,” Greaves said.

According to LifeSiteNews, The Satanic Temple has previously challenged state abortion restrictions by arguing that such laws interfere with its claimed religious practices and violate what the organization describes as bodily autonomy. The group was founded in 2013 and received recognition as a church from the IRS in 2019.

LifeSiteNews also spoke with Zachary King, described in its report as a former High Wizard of the Church of Satan. King sharply criticized The Satanic Temple and urged Hobby Lobby to have the restroom where the ritual was filmed blessed by a Catholic priest.

“I think that because abortion is like a curse, if they don’t act, things could get worse,” King told LifeSiteNews. “They should have a priest go in and bless the room.”

The incident brings together two realities Catholics regard with profound seriousness: the deliberate destruction of unborn human life and the use of imagery that appears to parody or attack the Christian faith.

For Catholics, abortion is not simply a political question or an issue of personal autonomy. The Church teaches that every human being possesses inherent dignity from the beginning of life and that direct abortion is gravely contrary to the moral law.

The imagery surrounding the ritual adds another troubling dimension. By deliberately placing the ceremony amid Christian merchandise and incorporating language resembling sacramental imagery, the production appears designed not merely to advocate abortion but to provoke Christians whose faith teaches reverence for both human life and the Eucharist.

LifeSiteNews reported that it contacted Hobby Lobby seeking comment about the incident but had not received a response by the time its report was published.
