In a significant move aimed at bolstering U.S. sovereignty and protecting American industries, President Donald Trump has signed executive orders withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement (PCA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). These decisions, announced during his inauguration as the 47th President of the U.S., were met with support from many, including pro-life advocates, who view the actions as essential in restoring the country’s independence and rejecting policies they believe contradict moral values.

Trump addressed the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord, declaring, “I’m immediately withdrawing from the unfair, one-sided Paris Climate Accord rip-off” and further criticizing the agreement for what he deemed its inequitable nature. “The United States will not sabotage our own industries while China pollutes with impunity,” he added. For many pro-life advocates, the Paris Climate Accord has been a point of contention due to its implicit promotion of abortion and contraception as measures to reduce population growth in the name of combating “climate change.” As noted by LifeSiteNews, the PCA has been criticized for its backdoor promotion of such policies, which they argue undermine the sanctity of life and family values.

While Trump had already announced his intention to withdraw from the PCA during his first term, the process was slow, and the withdrawal was ultimately reversed when President Biden took office in 2021. However, this time, Trump’s administration could act more swiftly, as the U.S. is not bound by the agreement’s original three-year commitment. According to the terms of the agreement, the U.S. must notify the United Nations, and the withdrawal will take effect one year later. This decision comes as part of Trump’s broader effort to restore U.S. interests over globalist agendas that he believes harm American families and businesses.

Additionally, Trump took decisive action against the World Health Organization, signing an executive order to withdraw from the organization. He criticized the WHO for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and its excessive influence from certain member states. “The WHO did not respond adequately to the inappropriate political influence of WHO member states,” Trump explained. “World Health ripped us off, everybody rips off the United States. It’s not going to happen anymore.” LifeSiteNews reports that the U.S., as the WHO’s largest financial contributor, will cease its funding after a mandatory one-year notice period.

The WHO’s policies, particularly its pro-abortion and pro-contraception stances, have long been a point of concern for pro-life groups. The organization has also been criticized for pushing harmful COVID-19 vaccine mandates and lockdown policies worldwide, and its efforts to establish a global pandemic treaty have raised alarm about potential infringements on national sovereignty. As Trump noted, “It’s not going to happen anymore,” signaling a firm stance against global control over health policies.

Trump’s withdrawal from these two influential global institutions marks a bold step in his administration’s efforts to prioritize U.S. interests over international agreements that many Catholics and pro-life advocates view as contrary to fundamental moral teachings. By halting U.S. participation in the Paris Climate Accord and WHO, Trump is reaffirming his commitment to policies that protect American sovereignty, respect for life, and the well-being of families.
