Speculation surrounding Tucker Carlson’s political future has intensified after a private gathering at his home brought together several prominent figures who have publicly broken with President Donald Trump over U.S. foreign policy, particularly the administration’s military involvement in Iran.
According to LifeSiteNews, the meeting included former Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, and others who have criticized what they view as a departure from the “America First” foreign policy agenda that helped fuel Trump’s earlier political rise.
Speaking after the meeting, Greene argued that many supporters feel betrayed by recent foreign policy decisions.
“We said no more foreign wars and we meant it and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise. But he’s betrayed us all,” Greene said, according to LifeSiteNews. She added, “Our commitment is America First for all Americans, right, left, and center. The movement has begun.”
According to LifeSiteNews, Kent described discussions about the possibility of creating a new political party rather than attempting to reshape the existing Republican Party from within.
“There’s a lot more nuts-and-bolts work that needs to be done there,” Kent said. “Running as a third-party candidate is challenging. Not impossible, but it is very challenging. But that’s kind of the consensus that we came to, that the current system just simply doesn’t work, and we have to find something new to save our country.”
LifeSiteNews reported that Kent said the proposed movement would primarily focus on opposition to foreign military intervention, rather than attempting to unite supporters around broader domestic issues such as abortion, education, healthcare, economics, or gun rights. He also said participants hoped Carlson would eventually become the movement’s presidential nominee.
“Hopefully he wakes up one day and Tucker says he’s going to run,” Kent said, according to LifeSiteNews.
Carlson has repeatedly stated publicly that he has no intention of running for president, despite recurring speculation about a possible 2028 campaign.
The longtime broadcaster rose to national prominence during his years at Fox News before launching an independent online media platform following his departure from the network in 2023. According to LifeSiteNews, his current programming places significant emphasis on foreign policy, long-form interviews, and criticism of American military intervention overseas.
Carlson was once considered a close ally of President Trump, endorsing his 2024 presidential campaign and maintaining frequent contact with the administration. However, according to LifeSiteNews, divisions emerged over the administration’s approach to Iran, with Carlson becoming one of the president’s most prominent conservative critics on foreign policy.
Despite those disagreements, Carlson has continued expressing support for Vice President JD Vance. According to LifeSiteNews, Carlson recently stated, “if Vance were president, we would not be at war with Iran.”
Questions remain about whether dissatisfaction with current foreign policy could reshape the Republican Party or create momentum for a new political movement before the 2028 election. According to polling cited by LifeSiteNews, a majority of Americans disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of Iran, though other national surveys continue to show broad public support for maintaining a strong American role in global security and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.
