According to Vatican News, Pope Leo shared his monthly prayer intention through the “Pray with the Pope” video produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network. In his prayer, he turns to Christ as the “Good Shepherd” who “walks through our streets and squares,” asking Him to “enter tall buildings and humble neighborhoods” and to “silently accompany millions” who “seek meaning amid noise and haste.”
The Pope recognizes that modern cities present both promise and challenges. While urban communities are often places of “freedom and opportunity,” he notes that they can also become “spaces of anonymity and isolation.” His intention encourages Catholics to respond by becoming visible witnesses to the Gospel in the places where they live and work.
Rather than relying only on large programs or public events, Pope Leo highlights the importance of ordinary acts of Christian charity. According to Vatican News, he prayed that believers would make “simple and loving gestures” together as a community that “goes forth,” overcoming indifference and isolation through authentic presence and fraternity.
The call comes at a time when urban ministry is becoming increasingly important. According to Vatican News, nearly 45 percent of the world’s population now lives in urban areas. As cities continue to expand, many people—especially young adults—face growing experiences of loneliness and disconnection despite living among millions of others.
