As his Apostolic Journey came to a close, Pope Leo XIV offered a heartfelt farewell to the people of Africa, marking the end of an 11-day visit that left a lasting spiritual impression on his papacy.

Speaking at the conclusion of Mass in Malabo Stadium in Equatorial Guinea, the Holy Father acknowledged that “the time has come” to depart, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to walk alongside the faithful across the continent. According to Vatican News, he thanked the Archbishop, bishops, clergy, and lay faithful, describing them as “the people of God journeying in this land,” where the Gospel has taken root for 170 years.

With pastoral warmth, Pope Leo reminded the faithful that “Christ is the Light of Equatorial Guinea,” affirming their mission as “the salt of the earth and the light of the world.” His words echoed Christ’s own call to discipleship, reinforcing the vital role of African Catholics in the life of the universal Church.

The Pope also extended appreciation to civil authorities and all যারা contributed to the success of the visit, recognizing the unity and hospitality that marked his time there.

Reflecting more personally, Pope Leo XIV described what he carries home from Africa as “an immeasurable treasure of faith, hope, and charity.” According to Vatican News, he emphasized that this treasure is not abstract, but deeply human—“stories, faces, and testimonies, both joyful and sorrowful”—that will profoundly shape his ministry as the Successor of Peter.

In a powerful acknowledgment of Africa’s growing importance in global Catholicism, the Holy Father pointed to the continent’s unique calling. He said Africa, much like in the early centuries of Christianity, is called to strengthen the Church’s holiness and missionary zeal. His remarks suggest a future in which African faith communities play an even greater role in evangelization and renewal.

Entrusting the continent to the loving care of the Blessed Mother, Pope Leo concluded by invoking the intercession of the Virgin Mary, praying for her protection over families, communities, and nations throughout Africa.

As he departs, the message is clear: Africa is not only a place the Pope visited—it is a vital, living heart of the Church, one that continues to inspire, challenge, and enrich the mission of Christ in the world.
