Thousands of pro-life advocates from across the United States gathered in the nation’s capital today for the annual March for Life, continuing a decades-long public witness in defense of unborn children and the dignity of human life.

Participants marched along Constitution Avenue toward Capitol Hill following a rally on the National Mall, reaffirming their commitment to national advocacy even after the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade. While abortion policy has largely returned to the states, organizers of the March for Life have pledged to continue the yearly national demonstration “until a culture of life is restored in the United States of America,” according to LifeSiteNews.

The rally began at 11 a.m. and featured music, prayer, and addresses from religious and political leaders. Headlining the event was Vice President JD Vance, a Catholic convert, marking the second consecutive year he has spoken at the March for Life. His appearance comes amid concern among pro-life leaders over the widespread availability of abortion pills and President Donald Trump’s call to “compromise” on abortion funding, according to LifeSiteNews.

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana also addressed the crowd. Johnson has a long public record of supporting pro-life legislation and has, at times, broken with Trump on key life issues.

Longtime pro-life advocate Chris Smith was also scheduled to speak. Smith has served as co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus for more than four decades and has participated in nearly every major pro-life legislative effort in the U.S. House since the early 1980s, according to LifeSiteNews.

Additional speakers included March for Life president Jennie Bradley Lichter, Elizabeth Pillsbury Oliver, Shawnte Mallory, Cissie Graham Lynch, Debbie Biskey, and Bishop Irinej Dobrijević of the Serbian Orthodox Church’s Diocese of Eastern America.

Musical performances at the rally were provided by Christian band Sanctus Real and the Friends of Club 21 Choir, contributing to an atmosphere of prayerful celebration and resolve.

As Catholics joined fellow Christians and pro-life advocates of many backgrounds, the day’s events underscored a shared conviction that public witness, prayer, and perseverance remain essential to building a culture that protects life at every stage, according to LifeSiteNews.
