As devout Catholics, we cannot remain silent while a public figure—especially one who claims the name Catholic—uses her influence to advance policies directly opposed to the moral law, the dignity of the human person, and the teaching authority of the Church. Nancy Pelosi’s recent declaration that she is “working … at the national level” to protect so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors is not merely political posturing. It is the public promotion of grave moral evil.
A Direct Rejection of Catholic Teaching
The Catholic Church has spoken clearly on the matter of gender ideology. The Congregation for Catholic Education warns that it is “a move away from nature” and “a denial of the difference and reciprocity in nature of a man and a woman” (Male and Female He Created Them, 2019). Pope Francis himself has condemned gender ideology as “dangerous” because it seeks to “erase differences,” undermining the very foundation of human identity as created by God (Amoris Laetitia, 56).
Pelosi’s advocacy is therefore not just politically contentious—it is spiritually poisonous. It promotes practices that involve the deliberate mutilation of healthy bodies, the chemical sterilization of youth, and the psychological manipulation of those who are often in deep emotional distress. These actions violate the Fifth Commandment, which forbids deliberately harming oneself or another, and they reject the truth of Genesis 1:27: “Male and female he created them.”
A Scandal to the Faithful
Pelosi has already been barred from Holy Communion by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone for her persistent support of abortion. Yet she continues to receive the Eucharist defiantly. This obstinate rejection of Church authority adds scandal to scandal. When a public figure openly defies moral teaching and still claims to be a Catholic in good standing, it confuses the faithful, emboldens dissent, and weakens the witness of the Church.
The Reality of Harm to Children
The secular evidence aligns with the Church’s wisdom. Multiple studies have shown that over 80% of children experiencing gender dysphoria reconcile with their biological sex by late adolescence without medical intervention. The so-called “affirming” approach often locks vulnerable youth into a false identity, subjecting them to irreversible surgeries and powerful hormones that carry lifelong health consequences—without addressing underlying psychological or emotional issues.
Far from alleviating suffering, these interventions frequently exacerbate it. Suicide risk remains tragically high among those who undergo “transition” procedures, proving that the problem is not simply the body, but the heart and soul in need of truth, love, and authentic care.
A Call to Catholics
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that “respect for the human person proceeds by way of respect for the principle that ‘everyone should look upon his neighbor… as ‘another self’’” (CCC 1931). That respect includes protecting children from harm—physical, emotional, and spiritual.
Pelosi’s political crusade undermines the natural law, denies the Creator’s design, and jeopardizes the souls and bodies of the most vulnerable. It is our duty as Catholics to oppose such policies—not out of hatred or intolerance, but out of love for truth and compassion for those being led astray.
We must pray for her conversion, yes, but we must also resist her efforts with clarity and courage. Silence in the face of such public sin is complicity.
