Erasing Truth: The Sin of Transgender Ideology in America

This week, The Guardian reported that more than 2.8 million people in the United States now identify as transgender, including an estimated 724,000 youth. The analysis, conducted by UCLA’s Williams Institute, claims that 3.3% of teens ages 13–17 identify as transgender. Numbers like these are already being hailed as proof of a “growing reality” that America must accommodate. But for Catholics, these figures are not a triumph of freedom or acceptance—they are a tragic sign of a society losing its grip on truth.

The study revealed what many of us already suspected: young people are disproportionately identifying as “trans” compared to older generations. Nearly 3% of young adults ages 18–24 say they are transgender, while the number drops drastically with age. Why? Because this is not an eternal truth written into the human heart—it is a generational fad fueled by culture, peer pressure, and relentless propaganda.

Some activists call this “social contagion,” but as Catholics we know it for what it is: confusion sown by the Enemy. The truth is written in our very biology: male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27). God’s plan is clear. Human identity is not a personal invention, nor is it subject to the shifting winds of cultural trends. To deny this truth is to deny the Creator Himself.

The data shows that over 700,000 children are being told that rejecting the body God gave them is not only acceptable, but a celebrated form of “authentic living.” This is not compassion. It is cruelty. It leaves children vulnerable to medical mutilation, psychological trauma, and spiritual despair. The so-called “affirming” policies being pushed in schools and legislatures do not liberate these youth—they chain them to a lie.

Researchers admit that the Trump administration has begun removing gender-identity data from federal surveys. Critics frame this as an “erasure” of trans people. In truth, the real erasure is happening at a deeper level: the erasure of God’s design for humanity. By denying that there is objective truth about what it means to be male or female, our culture seeks to erase reality itself.

Even more disturbing, the report highlights how younger generations are more likely to identify as “non-binary.” The further society drifts from Christ, the more it descends into chaos and fragmentation. Instead of finding unity in the body and soul God gave them, many are retreating into endless labels, rejecting the very concept of truth.

Let us be clear: transgender ideology is not merely a political issue—it is a spiritual battle. Every Catholic must resist the temptation to water down the truth in the name of false compassion. Yes, we must love every person, including those who struggle with gender identity. But true love does not affirm lies. True love speaks truth in charity, even when it hurts.

The UCLA researchers lament that, without federal surveys, we may not know “how many people identify as trans” for another decade. But as Catholics, we do not need statistics to know what is at stake. What we need is courage: courage to defend children, courage to uphold truth, and courage to proclaim without apology that there are only two sexes, created by God, unchangeable and eternal.

The growing acceptance of transgenderism is not progress. It is a rebellion against the Creator. And rebellion, no matter how fashionable, will never set us free.
