Jubilee for Catholic Influencers: A Historic First in the Church’s Mission to Evangelize the Digital World

For the first time in Church history, the Vatican is preparing to host a Jubilee specifically for Catholic digital missionaries and influencers—recognizing, in an unprecedented way, the internet as a legitimate and vital mission field. According to Vatican News, the event will take place in Rome on July 28–29, 2025, and will coincide with the opening days of the Youth Jubilee, drawing thousands of young Catholic evangelizers who spread the Gospel online.

This groundbreaking initiative is being organized by the Dicastery for Communication and will gather close to one thousand Catholic influencers and missionaries from around the world, “with strong representation from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain,” according to Sebastián Sansón Ferrari of Vatican News. These evangelists proclaim the joy of the Gospel through social media, video platforms, blogs, and mobile apps—embracing what the Vatican is calling the “digital continent.”

For those who cannot attend in person, the Jubilee will offer virtual participation options through the official website www.digitalismissio.org, along with livestreamed sessions via the YouTube channel La Iglesia Te Escucha (“The Church Listens to You”). The Vatican is also expected to release a spiritual preparation guide to help participants engage with the event internally, no matter where they are in the world.

A Response to Pope Francis’ Synodal Vision

The Jubilee was born out of Pope Francis’ call during the Synod on Synodality (2021–2024) to ensure the Church’s presence in all corners of society—including the digital realm. As Ferrari notes, the Holy Father sees this as a way to reach “the existential peripheries of contemporary society,” emphasizing that evangelization must include online spaces as part of the Church’s missionary identity.

Pope Francis has frequently urged Catholics to become “Good Samaritans” in the digital world by showing compassion and hope. He warns against communication that causes division, calling instead for a spirit of listening that “amplifies the voices of the voiceless.” This vision is echoed by Pope Leo XIV, who also emphasized “a communication that disarms words marked by division or hostility,” during his first meeting with Catholic media professionals.

A Jubilee in Three Phases

The Jubilee will unfold in three distinct phases:

  1. Spiritual – Pilgrimage through the Holy Door, a hallmark of Holy Year celebrations and a sign of conversion and grace.
  2. Formational – Workshops, keynote addresses, and pastoral tools for digital evangelization, held at the Auditorium Conciliazione.
  3. Celebratory – A festival of music, art, and faith in Piazza Risorgimento, located near St. Peter’s Square.

This rhythm reflects the Church’s traditional structure of encounter with Christ: interior renewal, formation for mission, and joyful witness.

A Global Hymn: “Todos”

To further unite participants across cultures and continents, the Vatican released an official Jubilee hymn, titled Todos (“Everyone”). The song brings together Catholic artists from across the globe and draws inspiration from Pope Francis’ words at World Youth Day 2023: “In the Church, there is room for everyone, everyone, everyone!”

This hymn captures the inclusive and synodal spirit animating the Jubilee and serves as a rallying cry for Catholic missionaries reaching the faithful through screens, swipes, and streams.

This Jubilee marks a defining moment in the Church’s journey of mission, not just for its recognition of digital evangelization, but for its bold proclamation that Christ’s love belongs everywhere—even in pixels and posts. As the Church gathers digital missionaries in Rome and online, it reminds all Catholics: Evangelization knows no boundaries—physical or digital.
