Exorcist Warns ‘Mark of the Beast’ Could Mirror Baptismal Seal

A Catholic priest known for his work in exorcism ministry has warned that the “Mark of the Beast” described in the Book of Revelation may represent a deliberate inversion of the spiritual mark given to Christians in the Sacrament of Baptism.

Father Chad Ripperger discussed the topic during a recent interview with former U.S. Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan, according to LifeSiteNews, reflecting on the theological meaning of the mark referenced in Scripture.

During the interview, Father Ripperger explained that Baptism leaves a permanent spiritual imprint on the soul. “God infuses a quality in the person’s soul which is a mark,” he said.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that Baptism imprints an indelible spiritual character on the soul. The Catechism states that this mark “seals the Christian” with the character of belonging to Christ and cannot be removed.

Father Ripperger pointed to the symbolism within the sacrament itself. During Baptism, sacred chrism oil is traced in the sign of the cross on the forehead of the baptized person.

“As an indicator that this person has been consecrated to Christ through his baptism,” he explained during the interview.

According to Father Ripperger, the mark mentioned in Revelation would represent the opposite spiritual reality.

“The Mark of the Beast is going to be an inversion of that,” he said, suggesting that instead of signifying belonging to Jesus Christ, the mark would signify belonging to the Antichrist and rejecting Christ.

Drawing on interpretations attributed to the early Church Fathers, he noted that accepting such a mark would involve a conscious rejection of faith. According to Father Ripperger, one would not receive the mark without “some type of renunciation of Christ.”

This means a person would knowingly accept something “contrary to the will of God and to the will of Christ,” he added.

The Book of Revelation describes a future time when a global authority compels people to receive a mark “on their right hands or on their foreheads,” and that no one will be able to “buy or sell” without it.

Father Ripperger suggested that modern financial technology could potentially play a role in such a system. According to LifeSiteNews, he speculated that the mark could involve digital payment systems connected to implanted technology.

“This mark will be a form of digital currency, something in our bodies that will give us access” to goods, he said, suggesting the possibility of something like an RFID chip that could be scanned during transactions.

Technologies resembling such systems already exist. Microchip implants that allow users to store payment information or identification credentials have been tested in several countries. In Sweden, thousands of people have voluntarily received microchips that can be used to access services, store identification, or make purchases with a hand scan.

Economist Richard Werner has also warned about future financial systems connected to central bank digital currencies. In a 2023 interview, Werner said he had been told by a central banker that such systems could eventually involve implantable technology.

“I was taught by a central banker (that) the CBDCs look like a small grain of rice that they want to put under your skin,” Werner said.

Unlike many forms of digital currency used today, central bank digital currencies could give governments direct oversight of individuals’ financial accounts.

“You have to think of CBDCs as a control system (or a permit system), not a currency,” Werner explained.

Despite the potential challenges described in the discussion, Father Ripperger emphasized that Christians must remain faithful to Christ even if refusing such systems brings hardship.

“They have to be willing to sacrifice the lesser good in order to achieve the greater good,” he said.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that God would provide for those who remain faithful.

“God will very often provide for people. If it’s His will that people survive that time frame, He’ll make it possible,” Father Ripperger said, though he acknowledged that avoiding such a system could be difficult given the capabilities of modern technology.

For Christians, the conversation ultimately highlights the deeper meaning of Baptism. Through the sacrament, believers receive a permanent spiritual seal marking their belonging to Christ—a sign of grace that, according to Catholic teaching, no earthly authority can erase.
