Charlie Kirk’s Heart Turned Toward Mary: The Untold Story of His Final Faith And Turn Toward Catholicism

Candace Owens has shared private messages and personal recollections suggesting that the late Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk, experienced a growing spiritual openness to the Catholic faith before his tragic death.

According to Owens, Kirk confided in her during early 2024 that “Catholicism is looking better and better.” She described their exchanges as thoughtful conversations about theology and the meaning of “Judeo-Christian” identity in political and cultural life. Owens clarified that while Kirk never formally converted, he was “going through some spiritual changes towards the end,” according to her interview with LifeSiteNews.

Attending Mass and Seeking the Sacraments

Owens revealed that Kirk had stopped attending services at Pastor Rob McCoy’s evangelical church and had instead begun attending Mass regularly; “sometimes even more than once a week,” she said. This shift, she explained, was not a publicity move but a private expression of faith.

She also mentioned that Kirk was wearing a St. Michael pendant when he died and that his widow, Erika, brought a bishop to pray over his body. Owens said Erika had previously invited a priest to their home after the couple reportedly learned of an occult threat, referencing an earlier incident when the Kirks sought spiritual protection.

Kirk’s growing Marian devotion was also notable. Owens recalled that he spoke “positively about the importance of Our Lady,” calling her “the solution to toxic feminism” and encouraging Protestants to better understand her role in salvation history. Owens added that “Catholics were hoping he’d take the next step because he was praying the Rosary,” though she insisted that “he had not decided to convert, and I never claimed otherwise,” according to LifeSiteNews.

Dispute Over His Legacy

In recent weeks, discussion about Kirk’s faith has sparked tension within Turning Point circles and among conservative media figures. Alex Clark and TPUSA producer Andrew Kolvet have dismissed the notion that Kirk was moving toward conversion, instead describing his appreciation for Catholicism as “aesthetic rather than theological.”

“Was he becoming Catholic? No,” Kolvet told LifeSiteNews. “But he really loved Catholic Mass. He loved the ritual of it. He loved the beauty of old Catholic churches and the stained glass. And him and Erika would go sometimes.”

Owens said she was “astonished” by what she described as an “inauthentic attempt to dissuade the idea that Charlie was softening on Catholicism.” She said the effort to frame his interest as superficial “registered to me like a cover-up of sorts.”

A Spiritual Legacy Still Unfolding

Charlie Kirk’s religious journey, from outspoken Protestant activist to a man privately drawn to the Catholic Church’s beauty and truth, continues to stir discussion months after his assassination in September.

For many Catholics, Owens’ account offers a glimpse into a soul in search of fullness. His admiration for the Blessed Mother, the Rosary, and the sacred rituals of the Mass suggest a heart moving toward the Church, even if that journey was left unfinished.

As Owens put it, “Charlie was going through some spiritual changes towards the end.”

Whether or not he formally crossed the threshold, those close to him agree on one thing: Kirk’s final months were marked by a deepening desire for God — one that found its expression in the ancient rhythms and devotions of Catholic faith.
