As the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Annunciation, Pope Leo XIV used his weekly General Audience to deliver a powerful message urging Catholics around the world to defend the dignity of every human life and to become instruments of peace in a troubled world.
Reflecting on Poland’s Day for the Sanctity of Life, which is observed each year on March 25 to coincide with the Annunciation, the Holy Father emphasized the urgent need to uphold the sanctity of life in today’s climate of global conflict. He warned that society must not lose sight of the value of the human person, especially in times of violence and instability.
“In a time marked by the madness of war, it is important to defend life from conception to its natural end,” the Pope said, according to Vatican News.
The Holy Father’s message extended beyond a single nation, becoming a universal call to all the faithful. Addressing French-speaking Catholics, he urged Church leaders to boldly proclaim the Gospel and guide the faithful toward active participation in building peace.

He encouraged pastors to “proclaim the Gospel with zeal and help Christians to actively commit themselves to building a world of peace,” according to Vatican News.
Turning to Arabic-speaking believers, Pope Leo XIV reminded them that every baptized Christian shares in the Church’s missionary calling. He stressed that faith must not remain passive but should be lived out with courage and charity in a world in need of truth.
“Every Christian is called to be a disciple full of love and a courageous messenger to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world,” he said, according to Vatican News.
The Pope also invited all Catholics to reflect deeply on the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary on this solemn feast. Just as Mary gave her “yes” to God at the Annunciation, he encouraged the faithful to embrace God’s will with trust and readiness.
He prayed that the Solemnity of the Annunciation “may be for everyone an invitation to follow the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, so as to be always ready to carry out the will of God,” according to Vatican News.
In a world often overshadowed by conflict, confusion, and moral uncertainty, Pope Leo XIV’s message serves as a clear reminder: the defense of life and the pursuit of peace are inseparable from the Christian mission. Through faithful witness, courageous proclamation, and trust in God’s plan, the Church continues to shine as a beacon of hope in a wounded world.
