Why the Church Still Needs St. Thomas Aquinas Today

St. Thomas Aquinas lived in a world filled with questions about God, knowledge, and meaning. Rather than fearing those questions, he embraced them. As a Dominican friar, priest, and scholar, he dedicated his life to understanding truth, and helping others do the same.

St. Thomas Aquinas believed that faith and reason were not in conflict. Instead, he taught that human reason, when rightly used, leads us closer to God. His work helped shape Catholic theology and education for centuries, earning him the title Doctor of the Church.

What made St. Thomas Aquinas remarkable was not only his intelligence, but his humility. He understood that knowledge is meant to serve truth, and that truth ultimately points to God. Near the end of his life, after a profound spiritual experience, he recognized that even his greatest writings were small compared to the mystery of God Himself.

His witness is especially relevant today.

We live in a time when truth is often treated as relative and education is reduced to information alone. Many people struggle to reconcile faith with learning, or believe they must choose one over the other. St. Thomas Aquinas reminds us that authentic education forms the whole person… mind, heart, and soul.

Today, families, students, and teachers around the world are searching for trustworthy Catholic resources that respect both faith and intellect. Yet access to authentic Catholic education is often limited by cost, distance, or availability.

This is why Catholic Online and Catholic Online School exists.

Catholic Online School provides free, faithful Catholic education and resources to millions of people each year. From theology and philosophy to prayer, saints, and daily reflections, everything is offered without cost, so the pursuit of truth is never restricted to the few.
