On October 12, the Church celebrates for the first time the feast of St. Carlo Acutis, the “cyber-apostle” who brought Christ to the internet age. At just fifteen years old, Carlo lived a life that radiated holiness not through fame or miracles during his lifetime, but through something profoundly simple—his love for the Eucharist.
A Modern Saint for a Modern World
Born in 1991 in London and raised in Milan, Carlo grew up like any other teen of his generation. He loved video games, coding, and making people laugh. Yet unlike most, he saw technology not as an escape but as a mission field. He once said, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.”
Through his faith and computer skills, he built a website cataloguing every known Eucharistic miracle in the world. His goal was to help people rediscover the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, what he called the “infinite source of light and strength.”
In a time when the internet often pulls hearts away from God, Carlo used it to draw souls toward Him.
“Not Me, But God”
Carlo lived his short life with profound awareness of God’s presence. He attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary faithfully, and spent hours in Eucharistic Adoration. He told his friends, “We are all born originals, but many die as photocopies.” His simple yet powerful words continue to challenge young Catholics to live authentically and pursue holiness in their own vocation.
When diagnosed with leukemia at fifteen, Carlo offered his suffering for the Pope and for the Church. He died on October 12, 2006, but his witness has only grown stronger. His incorrupt body, displayed in Assisi, continues to inspire thousands of pilgrims each year.
The Miracle of His Canonization
In May 2025, Pope Leo XIV officially canonized Carlo Acutis, following the recognition of a second miracle attributed to his intercession. This year, on October 12, we celebrate his first feast day as a saint—a moment that invites Catholics everywhere to reflect on how holiness is possible even in the age of social media and screens.
Living His Legacy
St. Carlo reminds us that technology is a tool, one that can serve the Gospel when guided by virtue. His life encourages young people to seek friendship with Jesus above all else, to frequent the sacraments, and to use their talents for God’s glory.
As we honor his first feast as a saint, may we echo his prayerful conviction:
“To always be close to Jesus, that’s my life plan.”
St. Carlo Acutis, pray for us. That we may bring Christ to the digital world with joy, courage, and purity of heart.
