The Cult of Everything but God: America’s Descent into Madness

Cult of Self

Cult of Self

America is drowning in cults. Not the kind of cults you see in old documentaries—hooded figures chanting in dimly lit basements—but modern cults, mainstream cults, culturally acceptable cults. The cult of drugs, the cult of politics, the cult of celebrity worship, the cult of social media, the cult of self-obsession.

We have become a nation that worships everything except God.

From a Catholic perspective, this is nothing short of a spiritual crisis. The First Commandment is clear: “Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.” And yet, everywhere you look, Americans are prostrating themselves before false idols, obsessing over meaningless distractions, and surrendering their souls to ideologies that lead them further and further from the truth.

At its core, this is not just cultural decay. This is spiritual warfare.

The Cult of Politics: A New Religion

Politics has become the new American religion, with people treating their preferred party like a church and their leaders like saviors. Instead of following Christ, they follow politicians who lie, cheat, and manipulate them. The Right believes in their own messiahs, the Left worships their own prophets, and both sides despise each other with the kind of zealotry that should be reserved for fighting actual evil.

The irony? Neither side is actually fixing anything.

No politician will save this country. No policy will heal our wounds. The only path forward is a return to God, but that’s precisely the one thing no one wants to hear. We have the First Amendment—the foundation of freedom that allows us to openly worship, speak, and assemble. But instead of using that freedom to grow closer to Christ, Americans use it to spew hate, glorify sin, and build altars to themselves.

The Cult of Drugs: Worshiping Escapism

What happens when a nation turns away from God? It seeks pleasure. It numbs itself. It destroys itself.

The drug crisis in America isn’t just about addiction; it’s about spiritual emptiness. Fentanyl is wiping out entire communities. Legal weed is turning people into zombies. Psychedelics are being pushed as a “spiritual experience” when in reality, they’re opening the doors to demonic influence.

People are searching for meaning, but instead of looking to Christ, they turn to substances that dull the pain of existence. Why? Because the truth is too uncomfortable. Because repentance requires sacrifice. Because modern America has trained people to seek comfort at all costs, even if that comfort is killing them.

The Cult of Taylor Swift (and Celebrity Worship)

If you need proof that America has completely lost its mind, look no further than the hysteria over Taylor Swift.

It’s not just that she’s popular—she’s being worshiped. Her fans don’t just listen to her music; they treat her like a deity. Grown adults weep at her concerts like they’ve just been touched by a saint. The media treats her every move like it’s divine revelation. And now, people even think she’s influencing elections.

This is idolatry in its purest form.

Americans have replaced Jesus Christ with pop stars, athletes, and influencers. Instead of looking to the saints for inspiration, they idolize celebrities who promote vanity, greed, and debauchery. Instead of praying to God for wisdom, they obsess over what some 20-year-old on TikTok thinks about politics. Instead of studying Scripture, they devour gossip columns.

The result? A dumbed-down, brainwashed society that is completely disconnected from reality.

The Cult of Self

But the most dangerous cult of all? The cult of self.

America has become the land of narcissism, where the ultimate goal in life is self-worship. People spend hours curating their image on social media, chasing validation from strangers, and believing they are their own gods. We are told to “follow our truth,” to “manifest” our desires, and to reject any form of objective morality that challenges our personal whims.

This is satanic at its core.

The devil doesn’t need you to worship him directly. He just needs you to worship yourself.

Pride is the sin that led Lucifer to fall, and now it’s the sin that is consuming America. The modern world tells us to reject humility, ignore God’s laws, and do whatever makes us feel good in the moment. The consequences? Widespread depression, mental illness, broken families, and moral decay.

The Devil in Disguise

So what is really happening in America? Is this just stupidity? Or is there something more sinister at play?

Make no mistake—this is spiritual warfare.

The devil has convinced Americans that they are too smart for God. That worship is outdated. That morality is relative. That sin isn’t real. He has used politics to divide us, drugs to enslave us, celebrities to distract us, and narcissism to destroy us.

And worst of all? People are gladly marching off the cliff like buffalo.

The Only Way Back

There is only one solution to this crisis: a return to Christ.

Not some watered-down, feel-good Christianity that accommodates sin. Not some vague spirituality that mixes New Age garbage with “positive vibes.” No—real, unapologetic, radical Catholic faith.

We need to put God back at the center of our lives. We need to reject the false idols of politics, drugs, fame, and self-worship. We need to restore the family, rebuild the Church, and embrace the truth—no matter how uncomfortable it is.

Because here’s the hard truth:

America will not survive without God.

We either return to Christ, or we continue down this path of madness, watching as our civilization collapses under the weight of its own arrogance.

The choice is ours.

Will we wake up before it’s too late? Or will we follow the herd straight into the abyss?

  1. This is not just happening in America. This madness is also happening in Europe. I am from a small European country, a rich country where most people are well of. Everyone is living in a false sense of security and have become complacent. Everyone is practicing idolatry; new age “religion” like meditation practices communing with spirit guides, modern witchcraft and Wicca, Mother Nature, or worshipping themselves. And no one is aware of it aware that they’re putting their soul at risk no one is aware that they’re actually supporting the devil and when you say that they are, that they should be careful, they look at you like you’re some fanatic. People need to resolutely turn themselves over to Jesus. The meaning of life is Jesus.
